At 1290 meters above sealevel, the lowest point of the community of Blitzingen lies high in the mountain valley of Goms. The name ‘Blitzingen’ is the name given to an aggregation of the 14th century hamlets of Ammere, Bodme, Gadme and Wiler. Maintained and restored with respect to the history of the village, most parts of Blitzingen can be considered an open-air museum of Switzerland’s history.

Blitzingen lies on an attractive location, due to its ample opportunities to explore the valleys and mountains of Goms and Binntal. Following the valley from Blitzingen to the southwest, one reaches Fiesch within several minutes by car. Fiesch is the doorway to holiday resort Aletsch Arena, which offers limitless hiking and skiing opportunities with a view over the Aletsch Glacier; the biggest glacier of Switzerland. Just before Fiesch, there is a mountain road leading to another holiday resort. Bellwald is a smaller village, but offers a wide variety of activities, combined with extraordinary views throughout the year, which makes it worth a regular visit.

Scattered around the Goms valley are Valais-style villages, ready to be explored. All villages are easily reachable in several different ways. By foot, by car, by train – and even on langlauf ski’s. The network of Cross-country tracks reaches from Niederwald all the way up to the village of Oberwald in Obergoms. It offers up to 90 km’s of well-prepared tracks. Blitzingen is one of the villages connected to the tracks.

Another means of transport for inhabitants and second home owners of Blitzingen is the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, which is a railroad route from Zermatt to Andermatt. It has one of its stations in Blitzingen. Therefor you will not be dependent on your car to visit the many beautiful places Wallis has to offer.

Also activities in the immediate vicinity are plentiful. In Blitzingen you will find the longest natural ‘Kneipp’ path of Switzerland. Walk barefoot through cold mountain streams, or through untouched meadows with fresh grass. Practice therapeutic activities such as woodworking or learn about natural medicines in the nature of Blitzingen. Explore the benefits of natural wellness. For the hiker there is a vast area to be explored. From the magnificent Binn valley to the Goms mountains. If you value personal wellbeing and the tranquility of nature, Blitzingen might be the right place for your second home!
